Melt the butter and olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onion, salt, and pepper and cook on low until tender, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for an additional minute.
Add orzo to the pan and stir to coat the pasta with the onion mixture. Add broth and increase the heat to high until the mixture comes to a boil.
Once boiling, lower the heat and simmer, uncovered, until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed, about 20 minutes.
Remove from heat. Fold in the cheese, basil, chives, and parsley. Taste and adjust the seasoning as desired.
Hi, On the box, the recipe calls for 3 quarts of water. In this recipe, it calls for 3 cups. And further down the page, it says to cook correctly, follow the instructions on the box: 3 quarts of water. Please! Which is correct?
I cooked your jovial cassava orzo as directed on the box. I would have turned the temp down but it said cook on high heat. I have a pan of thick paste. Wish i had seen this recipe because i would have cooked it in 3 cups instead of 3 quarts and simmered to let it absorb because the billing beat the orzo basically to death. I'll try it once again but it's too expensive to have the directions not be correct on the box
We are sorry to hear you had such a negative experience; we have tested it dozens of times and the secret is abundant water (at least 3 qts) and to test for doneness to your preference. Cassava is very starchy and if there is not enough water, it can become sticky.
