Einkorn Evenings at Jovial

We hosted our first event at jovial’s headquarters in Connecticut last night, and we loved it! Einkorn Evenings drew a crowd of about 20 people, who traveled to North Stonington to meet Carla and the jovial staff from as far away as Boston. The majority of guests had already been baking from the recipes in Carla’s book  for some time, but some were new to the grain. One guest had already booked his spot on the Einkorn Culinary Getaway in October, and it was a pleasure to meet him before the trip.

Many locals were thrilled to return to the property, which was once known for Randall’s Ordinary, a restaurant and inn that featured hearth cooking. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, the John Randall homestead dates back to 1685 and was once part of the Underground Railroad. Carla greeted guests and took them on a tour of jovial’s facility.

After telling the story of how she got started, Carla shared pictures of Italy and information about how jovial products are made. The focus of the evening turned quickly to einkorn, and Carla touched on topics like history, genetics, farming, breeding, and nutrition. The final part of the evening was devoted to baking, including tips about sourdough bread. Carla had some of her favorite recipes from the book ready for a tasting, where guests got a chance to talk to each other and the jovial staff.

We are looking forward to another Einkorn Evenings later this month, and many more events, including focusing on gluten free baking, in the future. We’re so grateful to have such a fantastic following and all of us truly enjoy getting to meet our customers in person!
