Congressman Courtney Visits Jovial at Randall's

This has been a summer of momentum here at Jovial Foods, and that’s how we like it! Today, we had the honor of welcoming Congressman Joe Courtney to our company headquarters in North Stonington, CT. Joe’s office reached out after Carla was named 2017 Connecticut Small Business Person of the Year back in May. Congressman Courtney had a busy day scheduled, but he managed to walk the property and see the 1685 John Randall house, tour our facility and meet the employees. He had never heard of einkorn, but found the story of its revitalization fascinating, and he loved the flavor of Carla’s warm einkorn sourdough bread. He also had never tasted gluten free pasta, but when we served up one of our favorite brown rice pasta recipes, and he didn’t even realize he was eating gluten free. Before leaving, he slipped into the test kitchen to ask for the recipe for our Mediterranean Baked Beans.

We won him over with lunch, but he also was very interested in learning more about our family-owned business. Carla shared photographs of our farms, manufacturing facilities and the villa where she hosts culinary getaways in Italy. She shared her plans to focus on these very same things at our new location in Connecticut, the historic 1685 John Randall homestead, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Mr. Courtney has an exhausting schedule, spending 4 days a week in Washington, and also making many visits around the state. He explained that meeting people like Carla energizes his hopes for a positive future for our state’s economy and small business around the country. As Carla revealed how much of a challenge the next phase of restoration will be, he assured her that after listening to what she has accomplished so far, he was certain she would take the bull by the horn, and create a beautiful destination that all will enjoy in the future!
